What is prediabetes? Its symptoms and causes:

Prediabetes is a condition that occurs when your body has a higher level of sugar in your blood than normal but not enough to be considered as diabetes.

If it is not treated or controlled it can lead to type 2 diabetes. People with type 2 diabetes almost always have prediabetes first.

In 2021, 720 million people across the globe had prediabetes, and it is estimated to increase to 1 billion by 2045.

Symptoms:

Most people don't have any signs of prediabetes. But you might notice some symptoms including extreme thirst, peeing a lot, blurred vision, tiredness, and dark skin in your armpit or on your neck.

Causes:

You get prediabetes when your body becomes insulin-resistant. That means your body is not using insulin hormones effectively.

It is not clear why people develop insulin resistance but some factors may be responsible including genetics, obesity, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and certain medical conditions.

Treatment

Certain lifestyle changes can treat or prevent prediabetes including a healthy diet, and regular exercise, losing obesity.
